Transfiguration Church offers traditional Episcopal services that include Holy Eucharist on the first three Sundays of the month, with Morning Prayer being offered on the fourth Sunday of the month.

 

     We are a liturgical church, which means that our worship services follow a set pattern.  The first half of a Holy Eucharist service is called "The Liturgy of the Word."  After opening with a brief prayer, there are readings from the Bible - one each from the Old Testament, the Psalms, the Epistles, and the Gospel.  Then the priest gives a sermon based on one or more of the readings, usually highlighting the Gospel passage.  Together as a congregation we will then say the creed, offer prayers, ask for forgiveness from our sins, and then share God's peace by greeting each other with a smile, a wave and/or a hanshake.  The second half of the service is called "The Liturgy of the Table."  Gifts of bread, wine, and financial support are brought forward.  The priest consecrates the bread and wine, asking for God's Holy Spirit to come and dwell within them.  Communion is distributed to all who desire.  The service concludes with the priest blessing the congregation, and commissioning them to go out into the world to love and serve the Lord.

     Morning Prayer is led by a member of the congregation.  There is no commuion at this service.  Instead, there are more opportunities to pray in community with each other

     Our congregation enjoys singing, and there are hymns and service music throughout both types of liturgies.

 

      Members of the congregation are involved in the services in many ways - by greeting people as they enter the church, assiting visitors in any way they request, bearing the processional cross, reading the Old and New Testament lessons, leading the Prayers of the People, bringing forth the offertory gifts, and by assisting with distribution of the consecrated wine.  As Episcopalians, we believe that "the liturgy is the work of the people."
